| Dr. DuFour is the only school administrator in
Illinois to receive his state's highest award as both a Principal and
Superintendent. He has been presented the Alumni Achievement Award from
Illinois State University, and was named as one of the "Top 100"
School Administrators in the nation by Executive Educator Magazine. He
is the author of four books, numerous professional articles, and a featured
column in the Journal of Staff Development.
Dr. DuFour believes the best path for significant school improvement
is developing the capacity of school personnel to function as a professional
learning community. His books and articles address the characteristics
of a professional learning community, and how to foster them in a school.
His literature and programs focus on identifying the building blocks
of professional learning communities, developing strategies for sustaining
school improvement initiatives, developing strategies for building consensus
and responding to resisters, and developing strategies for effective
collaboration.
Dr. DuFour has conducted institutes for the National Association of
Secondary Schools, the Association of Supervisors and Curriculum Developers,
the National Development Council, and the American Association of School
Administrators. He has presented workshops and consulted with school
districts across the United States, Canada, and Japan.
